The aim of present study is to determine the awareness of social studies teachers about the geographical features of their immediate environment and the status of their use in their lessons. The study was carried out with a case study, one of the qualitative research designs, and the study group consists of 65 social studies teachers working in Sivas in the 2019-2020 academic year. The study group was determined according to the convenience sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods. In the study, a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers considering the relevant gains in the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum was used in the collection of data. The data obtained from the participants through interviews were analyzed using content analysis and descriptive analysis techniques. According to the data obtained, it has been concluded that the social studies teachers participating in the research have a high and appropriate awareness of the tourism values of Sivas province and the characteristics of physical, human and economic geography, and that they use these in their lessons. It is another result reached as a result of the research, in which there are also teachers who do not give examples in their lessons regarding the geographical features of the province. In order to increase awareness even more and to use them effectively in the social studies course; preparing printed and visual publications promoting geographical features at the local level and putting them in the school library, virtual reality, augmented reality and 3D animations related to the geographical features of the province prepared by local administrations and to be used in education-teaching process are suggested.
